Catherine A. Smith

Catherine A. "Aunt Katie" Smith, 101, of Middletown, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Rittenhouse Senior Living, where she had resided for 1 ½ years. She was born in Turnova, Czechoslovakia, on December 6, 1908 to parents Ignatz and Catherine (Dostich) Osust.

Katie came to America when she was 3 years old. She worked for 27 years at the old P. Lorillard Tobacco Company. She was a life long member of Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church.

Ms. Smith is survived by her dear nieces, Ann Lehman, Phyllis (Jack) Downey, Josephine Soppanish, Margaret (John) Hopkins, Charlotte (Vernon) Helton, Dorothy (Bob) Johnson, JoAnn Roberson and Sue (Mack) Maffett; nephews, Joseph (Bebe) Orth, Paul (Carole) Orth, Thomas (Jackie) Osust and Glenn (Lois) Rusk; special friend, Mary Mikula; and many great nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Smith in 1968; her parents; brother, Ignatz Osust; sisters, Anna Baronek, Ellen Presta, Pauline Krizan and Mary Orth; sisters-in-law, Nedra Rusk, Gail Mickle and Marian Rodman; nieces, Mary LaRock, Mary Barnes, Anna Waczula, Pauline Benson, Anna Orth and Betty Reams; and nephews, Mike Presta, John Presta, John Orth and Henry Orth.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 12, 2010 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church, 1405 First Avenue, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
