George A. Mayberry, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, in New Port Richey, Florida. Born on May 24, 1944, in Urbana, Ohio, George lived a fulfilling life of 82 years, marked by dedication to his family, career, and community.
George served his country with distinction as a member of the United States Navy, earning an honorable discharge after his service. Following his military career, he worked diligently as a Production Manager for Pilot Chemical, where he was respected for his leadership and commitment.
A man of varied interests, George enjoyed watching western movies, playing golf, cheering on his favorite football teams, spending time with his beloved grandchildren, and spending time doing yardwork. His love for sports extended to his many years of volunteering with the Butler County Special Olympics from the 1980s until 2011, where he made a lasting impact on countless athletes and their families.
George was predeceased by his beloved wife of 39 years, Susan E. Mayberry, whose memory he cherished deeply. Also, his sister, Roxanne Mathison and his brothers, Eugene (Mary) Mayberry and John Mayberry. Lastly, George’s very special son Jimmy Kelly, who welcomed him home with the biggest hug.
He leaves behind a devoted family who will continue to honor his legacy: daughters, Robin (Norman) Cassell, Kelly Lawson, and Angie (Jack) Allen. He is also survived by his brothers, Paul (Donna) Mayberry, Jim (Linda) Mayberry, Steve (Theresa) Mayberry, and Charles Mayberry, as well as his sisters Helen "Sis" Lane, Pam Lambert, Linda (Wally) Durban, and Vickie (Joe) Wichert.
George was a very proud grandfather to Kayla Gill, Darcie (Jacob) Kunka, Tynon (Brittany) Lawson, Sylena Baltazar, Kellen Baltazar, Benjamin Allen, and Emilee Allen. His great-grandchildren, Adelyn Champion, Azura Lawson, Artist Lawson, and sweet Elijah Kunka, were a source of immense joy and pride for him.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for all the support and love they have received during this difficult time. Services to honor and celebrate George's life will be held on August 1, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Spaulding Funeral Home – 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown, Oh. and a celebration of life will be held at Eastern Lanes from 1:00 – 4:00 pm 6943 Coles Rd, Middletown, Oh. 45044. The family would like to invite friends, and all special Olympians to bowl in honor of George, Susan and Jimmy.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Butler County Special Olympics as a tribute to George and Susan’s longstanding commitment to the cause. bcospecialolympics.org
