Mary Carolyn Maurer

Mary C. Maurer, 105, of Monroe, passed away on September 1, 2026. She was born in Middletown on March 13, 1921 to parents, William F. and Carrie L. (Rish) Maurer.

Mary graduated from Middletown High School and went on to attend The Ohio State University. She received her B.B.A. degree from the University of Texas, working administration for two hospitals in Houston. In 1957 she was recruited to be executive director of the Middletown Area Girl Scout council, so she returned home to Ohio. She remained in her position until the council merged with Great Rivers Council, and she became assistant executive director. She retired as the Girls Scouts finance director in 1986. To say Mary has been an active member of the Middletown/Monroe communities would be an understatement. She served the United Way – Middletown Area on their board of directors, executive committee and was chairman of the information and referral committee. She was chairman of the United Way Retirees campaign, co-chair of both the 7th anniversary and the funds distribution committee. She also served on the United Way-Cincinnati Area division leadership committee. Mary has always been a champion of women’s support and empowerment organizations. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and A.A.U.W. board member and chair of community relations. She was a vital member of Middletown Federation of Women’s Club and Soroptomist International of Middletown, serving both in many capacities. She had been president, vice president, treasurer and board member of the Women’s Center, served on the Y.M.C.A. committee on Education for Wholesome Family Life, served in many positions with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and had been a first-aid instructor with the Middletown Chapter of The American Red Cross. She was treasurer and trustee with the Middletown Historical Society and served on multiple boards and committees with the City of Middletown and Middletown School System. Mary was a devoted and dedicated member of First United Methodist Church in Middletown, serving them in a multitude of ways. Once she moved to Mount Pleasant, she became extremely active on campus as well as with the City of Monroe. She served as chairman of the Board of Directors, was on the Executive Committee and Finance Committee of Mount Pleasant, was president and vice-president of the Residents Association and chairman of Life Care Auction and Acquisitions. She was on the Tax Board and Audit Committee for the City of Monroe, served as deputy clerk of Monroe City Council, as well as the Monroe Current Events Club and the Monroe Area Community Foundation-Development Committee. She was a member of the Monroe Rotary Club. Mary also volunteered as a tax consultant for the elderly with AARP-IRS. Mary left an indelible mark on the communities she served, and her absence will definitely be felt.

Mary survived by her niece, Marcia (Tim) Brown; nephew, William F. Maurer, MD; numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; cousin, John (Jennifer) Ridge; as well as a multitude of friends including Jack McGuire.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jean C. Maurer; and brothers, S. Frederic Maurer and James R. Maurer; niece, Carolyn J. Howard.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Spaulding Funeral Home & Crematory, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.) Middletown, OH, with Reverend Kim Armentrout officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery & Arboretum.
