Vernon L. Francis

Vernon L Francis, 87, passed away March 9, 2013, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. He was born April 17, 1925 in Russia, OH in Shelby County.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Mary (White) Francis; his parents, Edward & Alma (Monnin) Francis; his sister, Rosetta Francis; brothers Edward & Leon; and his daughter, Cindy Bryant.

Vernon was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. He retired from Middletown City Schools as a social studies teacher. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and enjoyed restoring old cars, traveling, dancing, and flower gardening. He is a member of Holy Family Parish, the American Legion Post 218 and the Middletown Senior Center.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Barker) Francis; son, Jack (Cathy) Francis; daughter, Vicki (Gary) McMurray and sisters, Jane (Bill) Groff-Hill & Delores Frankenberg. His grandchildren include Laurie (McMurray) Meckes, Andrew (Melissa) McMurray, Nicholas McMurray, Chris Jones, Theresa Jones, Marianne (Joey) Ford, Luke, Evan, Emily, Nathan & Shane Francis and 6 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 11:30 am at Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church, 1405 First Avenue, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00 - 11:00 AM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.

A luncheon will be provided at the parish center for family & friends to celebrate Vernon's life. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties, 5940 Long Meadow Dr., Franklin, Ohio 45005.
